Fire Behaviour of Insulation Panels Commonly Used in High-Rise Buildings

The energy efficiency of buildings drives the replacement traditional construction materials with lightweight insulating materials. However, energy-efficient but combustible insulation might contribute to building’s fire load. Therefore, it is necessary analyse reaction-to-fire properties various provide a better understanding designing fire-safe structure. In this study, tests were carried out assess behaviour polystyrene panels commonly employed in high-rise buildings. flammability characteristics expanded (EPS) and extruded (XPS) determined using cone calorimeter under two distinct external irradiance regimes, 35 kW/m2 50 kW/m2, approximate small medium exposure situations. To investigate effect fire-rated (FR) foil layer on sandwich panel, three test configurations used: (i) sample without FR (standard sample), (ii) (FR foil), (iii) damaged (foil vent) for EPS. Except smoke toxicity index (STI), overall performance EPS superior that XPS. findings study are useful analysing safety design panels.
